Video – How to Make a Rose Swirl!

On my last post I showed you how to create a Cupcake Bouquet for Mother’s Day or any occasion.  I also mentioned I would demonstrate in an upcoming video, how to make a beautiful rose swirl for the top of  your cupcakes.

Below is the video I put together just before taking these cookies to an event for Share Our Strength, an organization to help end childhood hunger.  I hope you will be able to tell from this video how they’re done and be able to recreate your own roses at home.

Enjoy!

  1. Thank you Julie, I hope you try them.

  2. Vicki , I just love the tutorial ! 😉 I really suck when it comes to frosting the cake or cupcakes *sigh* You made it look so easy 🙂 Really really lovely rose swirls 😀 Yup , you gotta have some purple or blue icing for the boys ! hahaha

  3. I love your tutorial Vicki. I’m going to try but I know it wont be half as pretty as yours. My icing skills are the worst.

  4. Vicki this is beautiful! I’m going to take a stab at it this week and I’ll let you know how I go! Thanks for the visit 🙂

  5. Anne, Baker Street and Cass I hope you try making the roses. Trust me they are so easy. Just be sure when you put the icing in the bag that you push all the icing tightly down into the bag so there are no air pockets. Then twist the top and squeeze some icing in the center of the cupcake or cookie while swirling around until you cover the outer edge.

    It’s very simple and hard to mess up unless you run out of icing or get air pockets and even then it can be repaired.

    Please let me know how it goes if you try it.

  19. You are all so sweet. Thank you for your compliments. Honestly if you have the Wilton 2D tip you won’t have an issue making these at all. It’s that easy!

  20. Hi Vicki, It seems that my comment did not go through. I came to check an answer for my question.
    I really loved your tutorial.
    My question is;
    Can I leave these iced cookie outside?

  21. Balvinder you do not need to refrigerate them if that’s what you meant. They can sit out in your home or placed where nothing can get on them. You can have them outdoors as well. However if it’s hot outside I would suggest using all shortening instead of butter and shortening. This will insure that they don’t wilt, so to speak. Does that make sense? Hope that answered your question. Feel free to email me as well if you need to.

  22. Thanks for answering.Yes I have worked with shortening and the one which Wilton sells. It stays good outside but wasn’t sure because I have never done it on cookies.
