French-Toasted Turkey & Cheese Party Sandwiches

French-Toasted Turkey & Cheese Party Sandwiches

SuperBowl is this coming weekend and many of you may be trying to come up with grub to serve your guests or to bring to someone else’s home.  Back in my college days – which was ages ago, a friend served these wonderful party sandwiches.  Hers were made with ham & cheese, but I prefer them with turkey.

These little sandwiches are perfect, not too filling, but just right as Goldilocks would say.  You can get them ready ahead of time and pop them in the oven 20 minutes before serving.  They’re so easy and delicious!

My husband suggested I try these with strawberry jam, since he’s not a fan of orange marmalade.  That said, he ate 3 of them and then asked if anymore were left.  No, they were eaten by those visiting our home at the time.  So I guess the orange marmalade didn’t taste that bad to him!  I do think I’ll try them with strawberry jam later today just to see how they taste.  I’m sure they’ll be great.

Of course be creative, why not try them with a jalapeno jam or something with a bit of a kick, if you’re a fan!  These are  sure to please your friends. Once you make these you may just decide to make a large sandwich for yourself. I hope you’ll try these soon.

Here’s the recipe…..

French-Toasted Turkey & Cheese Party Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • 1 - oz. pkg party sliced rye bread or similar
  • 1 - oz. pkg. swiss cheese, sliced
  • 1 - 8 oz. honey glazed turkey or ham, thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. orange marmalde
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 cup milk, I used skim
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Fold a single slice of turkey onto a slice of party rye
  2. Cut cheese and place on top of turkey.
  3. Put a dollop of marmalade mixture on top of cheese and spread out to cover surface. Place another slice of bread on top of the cheese.
  4. Heat oven to 450F degrees.  Melt butter onto a cookie sheet or melt in microwave and spread onto pan.
  5. Combine egg and milk and whisk together.  Dip prepared sandwiches into the egg mixture, then place onto the sheet pan.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip sandwiches over and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve hot.

Enjoy!!!

  7. These sandwiches look so good! I’m pretty sure they would disappear very quickly around here. I have some habanero apricot jam that I think would be wonderful on them. Or maybe cranberry strawberry. Now you’ve made me hungry! 🙂
