Halloween Jack-O-Lantern Cauldron

Halloween is just 6 days away and if you’re looking for a unique treat to make for this festive occasion then check out this fun Halloween Jack-O-Lantern Cauldron.  Filled with candy corn or whatever suits you, it will make a decorative piece for all your friends to snatch a treat!

If you’ve been following At Home with Vicki Bensinger for a while then you might recall the video for my Homemade Chocolate Cups.

The recipe below uses the exact same method only I used Candy Melts in Orange and Black (for Halloween), a water bomb balloon, and a piping bag.  If you don’t have a piping bag then use a zip-lock baggie, fill with the black melted Candy Melts and snip off a small corner from the bag – twist and squeeze.  It’s so simple even the kids can help!

This recipe can be made in advance or just prior to guests coming over.  It would even make a fun Halloween gift.  A word of caution – when adhering to the plate, just be sure it’s one you don’t mind giving away, because you’ll never be able to release the cauldron from the plate without breaking it.

Be sure to create these cute little Jack-O-Lantern Cauldrons before Halloween – they’re so much fun!!!

An festive centerpiece or candy holder everyone will love!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Orange Candy Melts (start with 1/2 package)
  • 1 package Black Candy Melts, (use about 10)
  • 4 small balloons (water bomb style)
  • pastry bag or zip-lock baggie
  • Paramount Crystals (optional)

Directions:

  1. Set aside a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Blow up 4 balloons (about 4 to 5 inches in diameter when fully inflated).
  3. In a medium microwave-safe bowl add the orange candy melts and microwave in 30-second intervals until melted. Stir until smooth. If too thick you can add 3-4 Paramount Crystals and stir.
  4. Spoon 1 teaspoon of melted orange candy melts onto prepared pan to form a small disk.
  5. Dip balloon in the bowl of the orange melted Candy Melts (be sure it's not scalding), coating about one-third of the balloon. Roll balloon around, going about 1/2 way up, to form a relatively flat edge.
  6. Place dipped bottom on pan setting onto disk of melted Candy Melt. Repeat process with remaining balloons. Set aside in a cool for about 20 minutes to harden.
  7. To release air from the balloons, pinch each balloon just under the knot, and cut a small hole in the surface between your fingers and the knot. Gradually release the air; if air is released too quickly, the cups may break.
  8. Carefully peel the deflated balloons from the cups. Patch any holes with remaining Candy Melts.
  9. With black Candy Melts repeat process in the microwave, heating at 30 second intervals. Once the Candy Melts are smooth pour into a pastry bag or zip-lock baggie.  Make sure all the melted candy is towards the bottom of the pastry bag or corner of a zip-lock baggie.  Cut off a small end of the tip, enough to create a thin stream for decorating your cauldron.
  10. To Serve: Fill chocolate cups with your favorite treat.
