Giveaway & Cranberry Orange Bread!

Have you ever noticed that once fall is in the air your eating habits change?  Instead, you find yourself gravitating towards hot soups, breads, oven cooked savory dishes and baked desserts.  Well, maybe not all of you, but definitely “yours truly.”

I had been planning to bake some Cranberry Orange Bread when I received an email about a new tool on the market that I knew I needed to try.
Do you like zesters?  I love them and use them all the time especially when zesting oranges, lemons and limes.  This particular tool called the “Better Zester” by Edgeware, is amazing! I love this zester and believe me I’ve tried them all.

I love that it zests without getting the pith – this is because of the v-etched teeth

that just skim across the surface of the citrus.  Plus, it has a measuring compartment so you don’t have to fuss with shoving it into a measuring spoon only to get 1/2 of the zest stuck to your fingers.  Even better, when I went to clean it, I didn’t have to worry about shaving my fingers, which I found incredible. No Band-Aids needed!

The Better Zester can be found at Williams-Sonoma and online, and retails for $14.95.  However, I have an extra one to GIVEAWAY to one very lucky person.  All you have to do is post a comment telling me why you’d love to win the Better Zester, and:

  • Like Edgeware on Facebook
  • Follow Edgeware on Twitter
  • Like “At Home with Vicki Bensinger” on Facebook
Be sure for each “like” and “follow” to come back here and post a comment that you’ve done so.  This will increase your chances of winning.
I’m sorry but this offer is only available in the United States.  The winner will be selected at Random on Monday, October 15th around Noon central standard time.
Be sure to leave a link to your contact information in the event you are the winner.  The winner needs to respond within 48 hours of notification or another winner will be selected.    Good luck!

The winner of the Better Zester from Edgeware was selected at Random on Monday, October 15, 2012 at Noon central time.  Of 48 comments number 33 – SusiTravl was selected.  Congratulations Susi.  Please contact me within 48 hours to claim your gift.

As I mentioned earlier I made a Cranberry Orange Bread using my Better Zester.  This bread is delicious with coffee or tea in the morning, or even a mid-day snack.  Better yet, bake some to wrap up to give as gifts, and attach a Better Zester with it.  Who wouldn’t love that!
For the Cranberry Orange Bread recipe read below………
Cranberry Orange Bread
yields 1 loaf

2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons, unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup Grand Marnier
1 egg, well beaten
2 cups fresh cranberries, coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
juice and zest from 1 orange
water
powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350F degrees.  Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt together.  In a separate measuring cup, combine the orange juice, zest, butter, Grand Marnier and enough water to make 3/4 cup liquid.  Stir in egg.  Mix liquids into dry ingredients until just blended.

Spray an 8×4 inch loaf pan with non-stick spray.  Pour batter in pan and bake in preheated 350F degree oven 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.  Allow to cool 10 minutes in pan.  Remove from pan and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.  Serve.

ENJOY!!!

  1. I’ve been wanting to get myself a zester forever now! I mean it would really make life so much more simpler. The orange cranberry bread looks amazing! A classic combination tough to go wrong with. A slice of your delicious bread would be perfect this morning.

  2. No bandaids and a measuring compartment too? How nice that would be! I like the V-shape design, too. Your bread reminds me of one my grandma made …

  10. Thank you so much for this post. I want to let you know that I posted a link to your blog in Creative Busy Bee Craft Inspirations, under the Page 1 post on Oct. 11, 2012. Thanks again.

  11. Of course I have noticed, I start going for more oven cooking. Cranberry and orange is my favorite fall flavor. I was thinking to make bread.

  12. Boy, my eating habits change hugely when the cool weather arrives – often to my detriment, because I tend to eat much more. Always have to watch, so I don’t become huge myself! anyway, very nice bread. I haven’t had this combo in years – about time I tasted it again. I usually use a microplane when I need to zest something. How does the Edgeware compare to that? One benefit I see of the Edgeware is its night compartment to trap and measure the zest – always a problem with the microplane.

  13. I have actually never used a zester – I would like to start baking more

  26. Your orange cranberry looks beautiful. I have a recipe of my mom’s that uses an orange glaze that I enjoy making each winter. I love that it is getting cooler and that I feel more like baking and having the oven on. I use my microplane zester all the time, but this one looks really good.

  27. I don’t have a decent zester and my cooking/baking would be so much better if I could properly zest. 🙂

  31. Vicki, I am the LAST person who should be giving Twitter advice. I am always a bit lost myself. What I would do is put #SundaySupper in the search box of your Twitter page around 7 PM and all the posts with that hashtag will show up. There will be discussion questions and posts shared…..you can chime in with answers or just watch to see how it’s done. I have added a program called TweetDeck where I have a column where all the #SS posts appear…but I wouldn’t think you’d need that to get your bearings.

  32. This seems to be a very nice zester. I would love to use it in my kitchen! (lclee59@centurylink.net)

  38. I would love to the the Better Zester because I have tried most zesters(even the expensive ones) and they just don’t deliver. Desperately need on to do the job.

  43. Orange-cranberry bread is perfect for this time of year. In fact, I always load up on extra bags of fresh cranberries and keep them in the freezer. After all, you never know when the urge for cranberry bread or muffins is going to hit. 😉

  44. I would love to win a zester and making that delicious bread would be even better!

  45. Hi Vicki! What a lovely bread! I’ve seen lemon and cranberry but never seen one with orange and I love it! I always prefer citrus flavor in sweets rather than just pure sweet flavor… this would be a very nice recipe to give it a try.
I love my Microplane zester so I’ll give others more chances to win. 🙂
Hope you received my text the other day. Sorry I’ve been really busy and rarely have spare moment to breathe a bit…

  46. It looks like a great tool. I’m not making myself available for the giveaway since I just won one from you recently 😉 We’ve been on vacation this past week so I haven’t had time to decide what I’m going to make first from it but soon!
